[background & history]: Here [don't judge me D: this is what I paraphrased for this section anyway.]

[character personality]: Otacon is . . . a huge nerd. His nickname is a mix of ‘otaku’ and ‘convention’ and he love him some Japanese anime. That’s only what he does in his spare time, though. Hal is very competent with engineering, and he, until just recently, made his living creating technology for ArmsTech. When Otacon cares, he shows it by nagging, worrying over the person and probably seeming more annoying than anything else to said person, but he means well.

Having a person that he does care for is pretty rare for Hal, though. He is one of those computer hackers that excel in technology but lack in common sense or social skills. Even if he has been getting better at talking to strangers, he still gets pretty unsettled, and is more comfortable alone than anything else. Overall he tries to be friendly with people, even if sometimes it seems more like a cover-up than anything else. He gets quite serious when talking about his work though,

It doesn’t come as much of a surprise to find out that Otacon is a dork; one can tell just from how he looks. Longish brown hair that curls at the ends, grey eyes covered by thin, square glasses, a little-too-thin physique, some careless stubble, and a lab coat usually make up his attire. Sometimes it may seem strange that the technological genius would have such a simple love for anime, but hey, we all gotta cope somehow.

When the going gets tough, Hal finds that the best strategy is to hide. He has no disillusions about his strength, or apparent lack thereof, and knows how to stay away from things that he will certainly fail at, preferring to avoid confrontation and physical fighting. (verbal disagreement? Hal is rather secure in his belief that he has a good sense of logic, and he’d enjoy getting into a debate with anyone.) When it comes down to it, he’s got a lot of cowardly characteristics, but he pulls through when he needs to.

As it so happens, Hal has a very good reason for avoiding humans half the time. Most of the people he’s ever known in his life have died or betrayed him (four loved ones dead and counting) so he has a hard time getting close to people. Nevertheless, considering what he’s been through, Otacon keeps himself pretty well put together, excluding a few tears when things aren’t going quite the way he planned. Or more than a few.

[character abilities]: Physically, nooot much. Dexterous hands? Otacon is a genius though, so he excels there. Good with computers and engineering.
